Widget not working now, or most of the time!
Often times lately the widget will not work, then the error message comes up. Is there something going on? http://greenbusinessleague.com/forum/

Inappropriate?Hey Mike,
What error message are you seeing? It looks to be working OK for me. If you're getting 'no items in feed' or 'feed not found', this would indicate an issue with the feed not responding. Let me know if you're seeing a different error.
Thanks,
Dave

Inappropriate? This is Eric Westby at KQED. We're seeing intermittent failure of our thermoSTATS widget to load this morning, Monday, August 3 -- perhaps as a result of your data center outage earlier? The widget fails to load, showing only the "Get Widget" tab and the circular progress meter, on about 25% of page loads.

Will this be fixed soon?
Thanks,
Eric Westby

Hey Eric,
I'd love to help. Although it could have been related, this sounds more like a potentially cached file. Would you mind trying to clear your cache next time you see this? I'm trying to reproduce on my side without luck so far.
Also, what browser and OS are you using? -
Thanks for your reply! This isn't a browser issue -- we're getting multiple reports of the widget failing from both our site visitors and users around our building. We use both Mac OS X and Windows. I wondered if perhaps one of the servers in your CDN is still down as a result of your earlier outage? Nevertheless, it's encouraging that you can't reproduce the problem.... -
Hey Eric,
Next time you have someone that can recreate this issue, can you have them view another widget and see if the same issue exists? Preferably something without Dynamic Sizing enabled, such as Maukie.
http://www.widgetbox.com/widget/mauki...
I think that this may be related to Dynamic Sizing on your widget and the onLoad on the boy possibly not being called for some reason. -
Sure, will do. But again, the problem was intermittent, affecting only about 25% of page loads, even performed by the same person. So it'd be tough to gather any meaningful data from other widgets and compare them. -
Understood. But if we can get them to refresh ~10 times and they see it from 1-3 times on the widget on your page, then do the same test on Maukie, we can at least narrow the issue down to Dynamic Sizing. The alternatives to it being a Dynamic Sizing issue are a bit trickier, unfortunately. Although in this case, I think that you guys are on the same CDN node as us (in SF), so I'm fairly positive that Dynamic Sizing is the culprit here.
An alternative to testing this theory would be to turn Dynamic Sizing off on your widget and see if the users report the issue anymore. This may be an easier bet than asking someone to take time out of their workday to reproduce an issue with a widget, which I know is a pain. -
Gotcha. The dynamic resizing is the whole reason we went with WidgetBox though! So if we have to give that up for stability's sake, yikes.... -
Yes, that would be too bad. We rev on Dynamic Sizing constantly to attempt to make it better and keep it functional, but it can be a bit quirky with the stock implementation. Another option (if we nail it down to Dynamic Sizing) is to try alternative methods of calling the function. For example, if that page that it's loading sometimes loads slowly, you can call the Javascript function on something different instead of body onload. -
Inappropriate?I see it is working fine at the moment, but happens quite often where it says something like "feed not responding", I will try and image capture it the next time it happens and include in reply.

Hey Mike,
Sounds like that could either be your feed giving back a back response that's getting cached. If you see it again, let me know and I'll see if I can reproduce it to verify for you.
