Unable to verify the Network widget on my blog. What do I do to fix this?
The widget network can't seem to verify the widget on my blog. I've already tried making sure both the URL and feed were the same and I've also tried them different. I can see the contents of my site in the blidget directly from widgetbox, but whenever I go to the travel channel to complete the final set (to click the button that says "OK, the widget is on my blog", I keep getting the verification error that says "The feed provided could not be read. Please try again later." Do I need to register my feed anywhere else?

Inappropriate?Hi Jason,
Sounds like maybe you have some feed issues. If you post a link to your status page (where you click 'the blidget is on my blog'), I can give you more detail.
-
Inappropriate?Here is the page: "http://www.widgetbox.com/network/travel/status/?memberId=31556"
-
Inappropriate?Hey Jason,
The Feed URL that you had in there redirected to your blog, so we couldn't read the feed. I updated this with your real feed, so if you go reinstall the network widget on that status page, you may have better luck.
-
Inappropriate?still isn't working. Where did you make this change exactly? I'm looking at the blog and feed URL in my blidget on your web site and everything appears to be the same. Unless there is another area I'm unaware of?
I'm getting a different message now. It says "The blog does not contain the widget code". The network widget is on the "/vacation-ideas/" page/URL. Do I need to move this to the home page of the blog. I was trying to set up this blidget to hit a particular category of topics. Will this work? -
Inappropriate?I did the change in an admin area of the site. The network widget needs to be on your homepage as described as the blog URL in your feed. If you want to set this up on a different page, your RSS feed needs to have the link element also set to that page.
-
Inappropriate?I noticed, with the new error message I'm getting, that the blog URL you set up is "<my>/wordpress/". Can you please change this to "/blog/"? I changed that just this morning and would rather use that URL ("wordpress" just redirects to "blog" anyway, but I'd rather start with the correct one). I assume I don't have access to change this myself in the "admin area of the site"?
Also, if this needs to be on my home page, is there a way to make the network widget appear smaller? I don't have much real-estate on the home page and the default widget is quite large (tall). Thanks.</my> -
Inappropriate?Jason,
If you correct these on your blidget, you can create a new membership. I didn't change your blog URL though.
There is not a way to shrink down the network widget. That would allow people to hide it too easily, which would give them a really easy way to take advantage of the network.
Here's your blog URL:
http://garretts-attic.net/wordpress/
Here's your feed:
http://garretts-attic.net/blog/feed/a...
I just changed the blog URL to:
http://garretts-attic.net/blog
Once you place the code on your blog, you can activate.

Inappropriate?I use Wordpress for my blog and it automatically creates feeds for each category and post on the site. So, basically you are saying that setting the blidget's feed URL to the category on my site (by suffixing "/feed" onto the URL) is not enough, correct? I actually have to find the "Link" element in the feed and change it to the category's URL, even though the URL for the feed is already targeting the category? I know the feed brings up the correct content because I see this in the blidget. After making a quick change, right now my blog URL is "http://garretts-attic.net/blog/category/vacation-ideas/" and my feed is "http://garretts-attic.net/blog/category/vacation-ideas/feed". If I change my "link" in the feed to point to the blog URL above, then it should work? I'm not familiar with how to change this in Wordpress, so I'll have to dig around a bit :-)
Thanks for being patient with all of these questions! -
Inappropriate? No thanks needed! Feeds and stuff can be a real pain in the butt.
Your last claim sounds correct. As long as:
a. your blog URL has the network widget on it.
b. your feed has the < link > element pointing to your blog
c. your blog URL matches that link URL
You'll be all set!
-
Inappropriate?Do you happen to know how I can locate or see this "link" element in the feed? I'm not familiar enough with RSS feeds to find this. Thanks.
-
Inappropriate?Sure thing! Go to your RSS feed in your browser and 'View Source'. In the code, there will be a few link elements at the very top level, one of which will be an 'alt' that points to your blog.
-
Inappropriate? Thanks for your help! I finally got my blidget working, however, it is only showing that I have a single post (the most recent one). I know I have at least 10 coming back in the feed. Do you know why they are not all being reflected in widgetbox?
-
Inappropriate?Hey Jason,
For the network, once you're active, we pull in any blog posts that you make (after activation). We don't retroactively pull in old posts from before the time that you activated.
-
Inappropriate?Gotcha! Just wanted to make sure there wasn't something wrong with the widget. Thanks again for all of your help!
