Inappropriate?Hi there,
The developer of this widget has chosen to add in-widget advertising to their widget. Developers are trying to make a few cents on their widgets now. You're welcome to find a similar widget in the gallery, but it seems pretty fair that developers want to get paid for their work.

this solves the problem

Inappropriate?Alrighty then, guess I will look for another..I thought the "get widget" at the bottom of the widget was enough. but I guess not.
I’m let down,
-
Inappropriate? Thanks Dave, I appreciate your quick reply.
-
Inappropriate?Hi Mary,
To clarify, the GET WIDGET is a way for the widget to virally spread and is mandatory (added by us at Widgetbox). Ad's are opt-in and can generate revenue.
No problem on the reply, Mary!
-
Inappropriate?I think Dave's reply is weak. Mary is correct, if somebody uses Widgetbox they allow "Get Widgetbox" onto their web site as advertising. NOT to allow other medical billing companies to advertise on my medical billing company's web site. Widgetbox made my site look much more professional, but with these pop-ups, it was definately the wrong choice. If you folks at Widgetbox want to be true professionals, you should charge for site owners to use your product without pop-up advertising. I feel scammed.
I’m deleting widgetbox from my site!
-
I dont know what happened but I complained and they stopped, no more fly in ads on my widget. -
We blocked ads for your site. -
Inappropriate?Hi Joe,
I'm sorry that you feel that way! To clarify, however, I think maybe you're missing a piece. The widgets in the gallery are not developed by Widgetbox, but by developers out there that use our wrapper and gallery as a way to get the widgets out there, spread it around, etc. So some of these developers have decided that they want to be paid for their work.
I appreciate your feedback as to what it takes to be a professional web service, but advertising is the way the internet works, for the most part. All of those cool websites that you can go and enjoy for free cost money to run, develop, etc.
I'm not sure what else you'd want in a reply to make it not 'weak'... the Get Widget button may not matter to the widget that you're using, but the value is to allow it to spread virally, which is half the point of a widget. If you want someone to develop some static content for your site, you can always go that route instead.

Inappropriate?Hi Joe and Dave,
I just wanted to Thank you (Dave) for blocking the ads, and Joe, maybe they will do that for you too.
Now If I could just a a grip on this HTML Language I would be ok
Good luck to you both and I hope you can come to agreement.
I’m happy
-
Inappropriate? No worries, Mary. The reason that we don't mind making certain concessions now is that we don't offer the service of pay-for-ad-free, as Joe mentioned above.
Additionally, if there's a conflict of interest, we can block certain specific ads for you as well. All it takes is a pleasant request...
In the future, this service (blocking ads etc.) will be a paid service.
Hope this helps to clarify.

Inappropriate?Once again I thank you, as you can see our group is small and certainly doesn't have a lot of traffic, ( I wish it had more) but none the less I appreciate you blocking those fly ins.... oh since I have your general attention, what kind of HTML builder can I use that I can just copy the Html code and have the page display like I want it to. ...I have coffee cup and frontpage to no avail.
Mary
I’m happy

Readers beware: we're going off topic for a bit:
Hey Mary,
You can use any HTML builder you like, but the only content that you can bring in is stuff in the BODY tag. So go ahead and build something, get it the way you like, and then start copying and pasting the code from the BODY tag into the widget. Frontpage is notoriously evil when it comes to making more-complicated-than-needed HTML. What kind of widget do you want to make? -
Inappropriate?Oh and 14.95 a year for a web domain is WONDERFUL I just wish it had more editing tools.....maybe someday huh?
I’m thankful
-
Inappropriate?EVIL now about sums it up. Heck I dont know about building a widget, I am still working on a pleasant to look at web page.
Thanks again for everything. now you dont have to think of me as a cup cake!
Mary
I’m happy

Inappropriate?Dave, I tried that and the photos that I had in the original document didnt appear and the text came out mostly the wrong color... now what?
Sorry to be a pain in the neck.
I’m confused

Inappropriate?Dave:
When I first installed the demo counter there was never any mention of ads being added to my website, now that I have purchased the item the developer without permission has added content that I have no control over. I purchased this item in good faith, I understood the "widgetbox" button at the bottom was going to be there and was fine with that. I will not allow someone else to make money off of my content. If I can't get the ads removed I will remove the counter tonight so either way he won't make any more money off of me, I struggle to make a few bucks off my website, now some developer decided he's going to make more money by taking space on my site, does he think I'm that stupid? I'm cutting my own throat by giving him prime real estate and clicks that would be coming to me are now going elsewhere else. I won't be blackmailed into paying 30.00 a year to remove them either. I don't think a site counter is worth 30.00 a year, that's more then my hosting.
Thanks
Mark
I’m Really Angry

Mark,
Your use or purchase of the site counter is not a purchase from Widgetbox. There's nothing that I can do about your agreement for their services.
As for Widgetbox Ads in widgets for non-Pro users, you don't need to use Widgetbox if you can't stand paying for the service either vi apurchase of a membership or displaying in-widgets ads on your site. I'm aware that it'd be awesome if everything on the internet was free, but unfortunately it does cost money to provide the service.
All the best. -
Inappropriate?Thank you for your replay, I'll be removing the counter from my site and I won't need to purchase an upgrade. I would suggest that IF you are selling the widgetbox version of the counter then you should add a disclaimer that this widget has popup ads from the programmer.
Thank you for your quick answer.

Inappropriate?"Your use or purchase of the site counter is not a purchase from Widgetbox. There's nothing that I can do about your agreement for their services."
Well I understand that, BUT I will say this. I believe it would be a better business practice to tell people up front that these widgets contain ads before they buy into this scheme. You might not think that 9 dollars is much but on a annual basis that is big money, and then to have the "developer" be able to add stuff to the widget remotely is just tacky. Then comes the big hit IF you want to make this ad free you must buy the PRO version for 30.00 a year. I believe you should post some sort of disclaimer when ever someone is about to "subscribe" to a widget that states all this up front. I know for a fact if I'd of known that I would have spent my cash elsewhere.
"I'm aware that it'd be awesome if everything on the internet was free, but unfortunately it does cost money to provide the service."
This is just snarky, Yeah and it also cost me to run my websites too, so giving up prime real estate and having to pay for it is a no go for me. I have commission junction, Yahoo and Amazon ads on my site. They all pay me to be there. I don't see the logic in paying for the use of advertising. And when did I say I wanted it for free, NO I paid my $$$ US for the use of this widget.
You also said in another post
"So some of these developers have decided that they want to be paid for their work."
What and who in the heck did I send my money too then? They are getting paid.
I have removed the counter and I'm going to file a paypal complaint. It's to bad too, you had some nice features but I'm not willing to be blackmailed into spending 30.00 a year per website that I wanted to use this on. It would have cost me over 300.00 a year for 10 of my sites
Well good luck
A former and unhappy customer

I’m removing product from my site
-
Hey Mark,
Everything does include info about the presence of ads. Sorry you missed it.
The good news is that if you used Paypal, it definitely was not with us. It sure sounds like maybe you're using Neocounter, which again, is not a Widgetbox product. They're a third party that uses Widgetbox for distribution like all other widgets in the gallery. I can't fault you at all for this confusion, as many of their paying customers seem to think that they're paying Widgetbox, which is a big pain for me. I'm going to see if I can find where you purchased this and figure ou if we need to work with them to change their messaging.
If you have any links, it'd be great. Thanks again.
