Is there a way I can change a code that's only in JavaScript to Flash?
I see many great Widget's that I would like to use on my site. But my site will only let me use Flash. Is there a way I can change the JavaScript code to Flash? My social site is Yuku.

Inappropriate?Sure - when you click the Get Widget button, the menu comes up an defaults to JS. However, you can click the flash menu item right next to the JS code and copy the flash code.

I believe that's on the blidget app, which I made one yesterday (works awesome, using it as a news feed for our nonprofit wildlife org.).
It indeed has a choice to get java script code, Flash, or MySpace (so the msplinks work). This is brilliant. It should be incorporated into the regular widgets built out of java script, or a function to combine a flash file with a jpg (clickable, target=_blank), and save the whole thing as Flash.
I made a "Remote" combining a flash file and clickable jpg stacked on top of it. If it could render to flash on the Get Widget, as a choice to the user, that would be masterful.
I see auto conversion to Flash in many apps (such as uploading music at Ning to become a flash player, or a photo album auto converting to a flash slideshow), so the technology is out there. -
Hey Catman,
Sorry, but what you see other apps doing is just sucking up content into a pre-existing Flash app, similar to the blidget. Rendering out HTML is a little different. -
Inappropriate? When the menu pops up it only has the code for Java. Not Flash

I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?Hey James,
For your widget to be flash-wrapper compatible, it has to be a SWF file. You can't display javascript or java applets in a Flash file, so the short answer is no.
Hope this helps!

Inappropriate? Thanks Dave, I wish more developers would make their widgets in Flash because my social site is Yuku.
I’m not happy nor sad.

Inappropriate?I feel the same way! Flash is the way to go with all of the security on many sites out there these days... but it does require a bit more work to put together a simple widget than your average HTML widget.
All the best!

Is there some conversion program to change a java widget into a flash file? I don't have adobe or macromedia flash. They are really expensive, and I am running a wildlife sanctuary here.
The 2 widgets I made are composed of a jpg (thats clickable to open a website in a new window) with a flash clock under it.
Maybe there's a free program someone knows for merging 2 components and creating a link, and save as flash -
Hey Catman,
I believe that Adobe Flash is going to be your only answer to making a Flash widget. -
Inappropriate?Hi Joe,
I understand what your saying, but unfortunately, I can't afford Adobe Flash. It's quite pricey you know. Just tossing this out as a way for widgetbox to offer a better service.
When I made the blidget:
http://www.widgetbox.com/widget/nwhs-...
I used no flashin the creation process. I just filled in the blanks and added files. As it lays in that Configure/Rate page, it appears to be in java script.
When people click Get Widget, it offers 3 codes, java, flash and MySpace. Somehow in that app, widgetbox adds a conversion to flash as an option.
I am just saying that it would be brilliant for widget box to allow people to assemble a widget in the same manner, adding various files such as flash, jpg, etc, and then offer Flash code. It must be do-able or it wouldn't be in the blidget. It would allow far more ease in making widgets, and not require the purchase of Adobe Flash. (I'm pretty sure an older copy of Macromedia flash would probably work too)
Just sayin' :) -
Inappropriate?Opps, sorry Dave, I said Joe.. I was talking on IM to someone namrd Joe at the same time :)

Inappropriate?Hi Catman,
Sorry, but the blidget is always Flash. Sometimes it is inserted via Javascript, sometimes via an embed tag and sometimes via an object tag. That's what the 3 different options you see in the 'Get Widget' do (change the way the Flash will be embedded on the page). Unfortunately, there is no magical conversion going on from Javascript to Flash or anything of that sort.
Hope that helps.
Thanks!
