How do I make a free blidget for my dekstop?

Hi. Is there a way to have a blidget on my desktop without making my desktop live? All the blidgets seem to be imbedded in some way or another. I would like a free standing blidget on my dekstop that updates everytime my WordPress Blog does. Any ideas?
