Can't get my widget to show up on Facebook!
OK, I got the WIdgetbox Pro and created my widget. Went and followed the directions for the Beta for the facebook application. The app appears on FB, but not the widget itself, it is not recognized as an app that supports tabs. What am I missing here?

Inappropriate?Hey Carol,
You may want to delete your app and start over. There aren't many steps in the accelerator, but if you skip any of the details within the steps, things won't work. If you do, it'll work great.
If you want me to validate that there's a problem with the config of your app, just post a link to your facebook app (apps.facebook.com/_______/)

Inappropriate?Hey Carol,
Found a bug in another thread that may help you:

Inappropriate?Widgetbox,
I created a Blidget Pro and converted it to a Facebook App. The app installs ok on Facebook, however, the image doesn’t show up until you click the app in the sidebar. What do I do to get it to work?

Thanks! -
Inappropriate?Hi Alison,
I see the issue. We're working on resolving it, but it may take up to a few hours to get your image fixed up. Hang in there, please!
-
Inappropriate?I can't even figure out how to do the Facebook app part. Can anyone help?
-
Hi Stephane,
Just go to MY WIDGETBOX, DEVELOPED WIDGETS, select the blidget that you want to turn into an FB app's name, and click the 'MAKE A FACEBOOK APP' brick to get started. Then follow the steps as labeled. -
Inappropriate? Thanks but I tried that before sending the note. It is the 2nd step that confuses me: Next, click here to add the Facebook Developer Application (if you haven't already).
I click on "click here" and it takes me to a page with 236 news stories...what do I do from here? -
-
Inappropriate?tried that one more time and tried to submit an application but got an error message:
All of the following fields are required. Your application must have at least 5 total users or 10 monthly active users before you can submit it to the Application Directory. We cannot showcase any applications that are under construction or do not utilize the Facebook Platform. -
Hey Stephane,
That sounds like you already have an application and are trying to submit it to Facebook's gallery. They have their own set of rules about what can go into their gallery, and for you to be this far, you must have already done the part that we do for you, which is make the application. -
Inappropriate? As you can tell, I am no facebook expert. Ultimately, how do I get this widget on my facebook page? If you say it is already set up, don't I need to post FBML code in a box to post on a tab in my facebook account?
-
Just go to your widget's details page (http://www.widgetbox.com/widget/_____ ) and click GET WIDGET, then select Facebook. Once you've made the app, doing this will add the application for you if you haven't already.
If you have already added the app, you have to go to it and click the 'Add to Profile' to add it to the profile. -
Inappropriate? If adding the app requires to complete a full-on 7-8 pages of all kinds of URLs for facebook, that is an incredibly large amount of work. Why is this so hard?
I tried to GET WIDGET and embedding code (java, flash) into the facebook box where I want the widget to live, and it comes out blank. It would need FBML code.
I must be doing something wrong - it can't be this hard.....help! -
Inappropriate?Creating a Facebook app takrs 3 steps on 1 page. It will generate a Facebook app that generates FBML. But you'll never see that part. All you need to do is complete the wizard and then click GET WIDGET and add it to Facebook.
To complete the wizard, add the developer app and complete the instructions as posted above.
-
Inappropriate? But my profile is NOT my consumer facing page. i actually have to paste FBML code into a box in a tab in order to render some of my facebook page content.....
-
Inappropriate?Stephane,
Only Facebook profiles are supported. If you're dealing with some other sort of artist profile or a Facebook page, this is not supported.
-
Inappropriate? So these widgets only go on people's personal profiles, not a company's? Our facebook page only gets fans, not friends - I think that we are set up as a cause in facebook. So this is not supported by WidgeBox?
-
Yeah, that would be a Facebook Page. Pages have different requirements for making apps than profiles and pages are not supported. We're working to add support in the future, but it's not there currently. -
Inappropriate?i have just tried to share it from the website that has the widget to my personal facebook page (a regular one with friends) and all I share is a "video" of it (with a huge play) button on it that shows the widget in on the Wall. So when I will get a ton more comments, no one will see the widget any more. Can't I get it to stick to my Wall somewhere?
-
Inappropriate? What you've done is post the widget to your news feed, not installed a Facebook application. This means that you haven't yet made a Facebook app. Yes, when you post to your feed, newer items in the feed will push it down on your profile page.
-
Inappropriate?Hold on. I have tried to do the GET WIDGET and share it to my personal facebook page but that only posted to my wall. So now I have to add the app to facebook but facebook does not support the widget except for profile pages. I am lost. There seems to be more to this than 3 steps and 1 page....because I tried the 3 steps and 1 page and it just posts to my wall....I am sorry but I am not getting this....
-
Inappropriate?Let me start way back from the beginning of how this stuff works and if I lose you, just let me know.
There are 2 types of ways to install a widget to Facebook: posting to your wall, or building (and then adding) a Facebook application.
To make a Facebook app, go to the dashboard page for your Pro Blidget and click MAKE A FACEBOOK APP. This will allow you to add the ap as a box on your profile where it will live forever.
If you do make an application, the Get Widget menu will automatically change to install your app instead of posting to the Facebook news feed when people click Add to Facebook for your widget.
If you would like me to post a link directly to the Facebook App Wizard, the thing that makes your widget into a Facebook app, just post a link to your widget on our site. This is fairly easy if you're comfortable copying and pasting some info into fields, but it does require comfort with this. When you're done, you'll have a Facebook app that you can add, your friends can add, etc. (to profile pages)
-
Inappropriate?I will sound weird and idiotic, but I can deal with my own pride here. Where on your site would you like me to post a link to my widget?
-
Don't worry about it, Stephane. We'll work through it. Just post here a link to anywhere where I can find your widget and I'll do the work form there to track down your info and give you a link straight into the Facebook app wizard. -
Inappropriate?Sorry to be a pain. I am assuming you are talking about this link:
http://www.widgetbox.com/widget/beewe... -
Not a pain at all. That link is perfect. This next part, I can't do for you, as you have to be logged into Facebook:
http://www.widgetbox.com/dash/dev/fac...
Now follow the steps on that page. I just went through them without saving and it all looked to be working right. -
Inappropriate?I logged into widgetbox.com then logged into facebook. Got to the profile page for our facebook page (again, not the consumer facing one). When I follow the second step, that's when it takes me to the news stories....but I see that there is a mention of the BeeWell Miles app in the upper right corner. I clicked on that and that is where I have been a few hours ago. This is the place that requires 7-8 pages worth of data. now what?
-
You'll need to login as a Facebook user, not as a Facebook page (company) to complete the wizard.
I don't know where you're seeing a Bee Wells app. Just follow the steps outlined there. The issue is once you successfully add the developer app, step 2 will make a lot more sense. -
Inappropriate?aha! that was a key point - facebook user!....I do have some positive news. I was asked to add a developer something which I allowed. But I am back at the news stories page and my BeeWell miles app is not showing. Now what should I be doing? I have done the two steps asked by the widgetbox......but what now?
-
ok, so once you click 'I've done this' for Step 1, we'll take you to a new page and you should be able to follow the steps outlined in Step 2. Is that where we are? -
Inappropriate?We are making progress!
Lost at the canvas URL part. Where do I get those? -
Inappropriate? For the canvas page URL, you can make it whatever you want. It's going to be used on facebook like:
http://apps.facebook.com/thisIsMyCanv...
It can only letters and it has to be unique. But overall, you just make it up.
-
Inappropriate?OK. What about the canvas callback URL?
-
Don't worry about any other fields than listed in the instructions. Just leave them blank and hit save. -
Inappropriate?Looks like it worked. It has successfully saved my facebook application! But the app is so small! I have lost all my branding on it. The logo is gone so no one will know who created the app....is there any place I can add a mention of my program (BeeWell Miles)?
-
Inappropriate? It's official - you are a GENIUS! I made a few modifications and it is AWESOME! Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
I’m jumping for joy!
-
Great news, Stephane! Glad we could work through it and nice work. -
Inappropriate?I have followed your instructions above and when I select install widget, after creating a facebook app, it still only connects me to the post on my profile page.
I’m bothered
-
