Can a widget or blidget open in the same window
I really need help getting a widget/blidget that I embed on my own site to open in the same window. I am including the feed on my home page to give my readers a preview of the 5 newest posts. But I want the links in the blidget to open in the SAME window so it's not annoying. Is this possible? Please, I really hope so.

Inappropriate?Hi Russ,
This currently is not possible. We've had a couple of other requests for this over the years, so I'll be sure to put this on the list to discuss internally.
Generally, the reason that we don't open in the same window, is because users that install the widget on places across the internet usually don't want to take people off of their page.

Inappropriate?Hey Dave,
Thanks a lot for the response. I guess if you could make it an option, that would be great.
I see what you're saying. But for those of us not fluent in HTML who rely on self-help sites like Widgetbox and our hosting site to build our sites, widgets are, as far as I've seen thus far, the best way to make a page more dynamic when we're limited to using a template.
Another question is, if I have somebody who does know HTML, is the code alterable to provide for that function?
Thanks for putting it in the queue to discuss. I can tell you also that I've seen at least one comment on another widget page here of a user who designed one that does open in the same window. Of course, while it had that functionality, I couldn't make it my own feed.
Looking for the yin and the yang of both those worlds.
Thanks again.
Russ

Inappropriate?Hey Russ,
No worries on putting it on the list. We can always use the feedback.
As far as editing code, you wouldn't be able to edit the Blidget. They (the programmer) would instead have to build an RSS widget from scratch for you.

Inappropriate?Just to show my support for adding this feature.
Having links open in a new window makes it almost unusable on my own sites.
I am trialling it on www.theprisoneronline.com to show the latest forum posts and news, opening in a new window each time is awful.
I’m hopeful

noted. thanks. But again, keep in mind that this is two cases. Since the idea of the widget isn't only to be installed to that one place on your site, but for people to take it anywhere, what about when someone sees your widget, takes it with them, and all of their traffic is taken away from their site when someone clicks on a link in the blidget?
I have an idea of a way to get around this, but there's a lot of UI, flow, and work that has to go on to make something that seems simple (like this) actually work. -

Inappropriate?Hey Dave,
Yeh thanks again for responding. I don't doubt for a second that it's harder than people like me think it is.
But I think that "option", to be able to have it open from the source or from the target site, would be a significant draw to your website as well. It would be something to advertise.
For those of us who use prepackaged hosting sites and that aren't fluent in HTML, the widget is an extremely helpful tool for making our sites dynamic and fluid beyond the scope of what the host provides.
I personally would have paid double for the monthly pass if I knew that I had that option when creating a widget.
I hope you guys decide that it's a worthwhile endeavor.
Thanks again.
Russ

Inappropriate?Oh and listen, I'm sorry about the multiple posts. Stupid Google Chrome didn't indicate that any of them went through.
I'm sorry -
Inappropriate?Dave,
I am testing the widget and after getting close to publish a new web site for more than 100,000 visitors/month (www.newmiamiarch.org), I found that I cannot change the target of the links!
Do you have any idea of the time frame you are going to add it into your product? I will have to look for another component if I cannot fix the target of the link and choose it to be open in the same window of the web site. -
Hey Caludio,
Congrats on the impending release of your new site! Unfortunately, I don't have a timeframe for this. -
Inappropriate? Thanks for responding to promptly Dave.
Is there any way around that I can work with in the mean time? Could I take the title out and add the link manually into the Summary of my posting? I would use the link target=_self in the Summary. Would that work? Or would your program force the target to be blank ? -
Inappropriate?Yeah, we strip the target out in the above example. Reason being, as you know, it's often a concern to users installing a widget that the widget could, in some way, take traffic away from their site.
I don't really have a good work around for this.

Inappropriate?Claudio,
Thanks for posting. I have no knowledge that would enable me to do what you're trying to do. If you are successful in figuring out a workaround, it would be greatly appreciated if you could let us know here.
Good luck and thanks again.
And thanks to you too Dave, I look forward for Widgetbox's fix.
