I fixed it!!!

Here's what someone suggested that i tried-
"Another thing you can try is zapping all your PRAMs and deleting /Library/Preferences/com.apple.windowserver and ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.windowserver"

It's easy - just click on the finder button then click on users folder -> your username -> then library etc. etc.

Find the files and drop em in the trash can. Then empty trash and restart.

I did this and my monitor came right back to life.

Tried detecting displays and reseting resolution - still no luck!
